How to Use Synergy Blends

Body, bath, massage — the ideas are endless for using pure, therapeutic essential oil synergy blends. Experiment, experience and enjoy. They will change and enhance your life.

Essential oils frequently produce more powerful effects when blended together. Because they work well together, they are known as 'synergy blends'. The blending can be undertaken for a specific therapeutic purpose, for a particular part of the body, for general massage, for topical use, for a particular therapy, to create a pleasing fragrance... all sorts of reasons. Blending is one of the arts of a professional aromatherapist, but it is a definite skill which can take quite a lot of 'trial and error' to master. So it is also possible to obtain oils already pre-blended by experts.

Ambient diffusion
Diffusers disperse essential oils into the air with a cool air stream or gentle warmth. Ideal for cleansing and purifying the air or for creating a fragrant atmosphere. Use 4-8 drops of essential oils on the replaceable cartridges or pads for cool air diffusion. Use 3-5 drops on warming diffusers. Refresh as needed.

Massage or Body Oil
Massage is a therapeutic and sensual way to experience aromatherapy. It is gentle and rhythmic, combining the benefits of touch with the properties of essential oils. Massage relaxes muscles, and improves muscle tone, circulation, and lymph flow. It relieves physical tension and, in turn, mental stress. Standard dilution is 20 drops of essential oils to 30ml of base oil or lotion. Sensitive skin may require a lower dilution, such as 5-10 drops in 30ml or less if necessary.

Bath
Baths combine the restorative effects of both water and essential oils in a most delightful way. They are perfect to relieve muscle strain, soothe skin conditions, and promote emotional balance. Use 8-10 drops to a full tub of water. It is best to add the essential oils after you have immersed yourself, so that you receive the full benefit of the oils as they begin to diffuse in the warm water.

Direct
Inhale the fragrance, three or four times, through the nose directly from the bottle, from a tissue sprinkled with 4 drops of essential oil, or from a personal inhaler.

Chest rub
Many of the Oshadhi synergies are recommended to assist respiration, such as Relaxation or Prana Fresh. In these cases, a chest and upper back rub is beneficial. Dilute 10 drops of the synergy in 30ml of organic carrier oil.

Shower
After your shower, put 3-5 drops of the synergy into your hands and rub them together. While your skin is still damp from the shower, quickly and evenly spread the synergy over your arms, legs, and torso. Allow to dry.

Foot Bath
Foot baths are a wonderful way to pamper yourself — perfect when you don't have time for a full bath. When your feet feel good, you feel good all over. Use 2-4 drops in a tub of water. Adjust the temperature of the water to suit your needs: cool water invigorates and energizes, warm water sedates and relaxes.

Compress
A compress is a damp, folded cloth that has been infused with essential oils and then applied to the skin. It employs either warm or cool water, depending on its use. Fill a basin with water and add 2-5 drops of essential oil. Stir briskly, lay in the cloth, wring, and apply.

Sauna
Put one drop of essential oil on the hot rocks or mix 5 drops of essential oil in one cup of water and pour over the rocks.

Perfume
Personal fragrancing is an alluring way to express yourself. General guidelines for making perfume are to mix 10 drops of essential oil in one tablespoon of jojoba oil. Apply to one or more of the pulse points — behind the ears, underside of the wrist, inner elbow, behind the knees, and on the backs of the ankles.

Meditation
Plant aromatics have been used during meditation and spiritual pursuit for thousands of years. Oshadhi has several blends well-suited for this purpose, such as Terra: GroundingHimalaya: Deep Wisdom, and, of course, Meditation. Diffuse in the area, or put a drop in your hands, rub them together and inhale the aroma.

Add to Cosmetic Products
Essential oils can be added to pre-made, fragrance-free products. Use 10-15 drops per 60ml of moisturizer; 20-30 drops per 250ml of lotion; 20 drops per 250ml of shampoo; and 20-30 drops per 250ml of conditioner.

Misting
Misting is a convenient way to impart the enticing aroma of the synergies in the room or on your skin. Fill a 250ml mister bottle with 20-30 drops of essential oils. Shake vigorously each time before misting.
