Valerian has a very tenacious aroma which is earthy warm woody and musky, and is most frequently used in perfumery. It does have significant value in aromatherapy as a profoundly settling oil that can be used at bedtime to calm the nerves and prepare for a peaceful night. Try sniffing directly from the bottle or put on a cotton pad inside the pillow case.
