Although the term essential oil is sometimes used loosely to include Absolutes, there are differences between an essential oil and an absolute (see below for fuller explanation).
Here are our five best-selling Absolutes: Rose Blossoms, Benzoin, Jasmine, Honey, Frangipani.

The two main methods of obtaining oil from plant material are: Distillation and Extraction. Distillation typically involves passing steam through plant material, which is then allowed to condense. As it does so, it separates into two products: an essential oil (containing non water-soluble compounds), and a hydrolat (containing water-soluble compounds).
However there are some plants for which either the essential oil would be degraded by distillation, or the yields are so small as to make the process prohibitatively expensive. In such cases the oil is obtained through extraction. This can involve dissolving the plant material in a solvent (such as hexane), from which the Absolute is then obtained. Absolutes are highly aromatic and for this reason are frequently used in the perfume industry. Physically they are often thick and viscous, and may even solidify at room temperature.
We offer 450 different aromatherapy essential oils and Absolutes. All are tested and are guaranteed 100% pure and unadulterated. 70% are either certified organic, or are from wild-crafted sources.
